Now we all want that salon look without having to go to The Salon, this often isn’t possibly and as a salon owner myself I am some what happy about this or I would havent a job! But here are a few tips and tricks on how to blow dry your hair the salon way!

Your first step for blow drying your hair should be when you have washed your hair leave it to air dry for about 15 minutes before adding heat to your hair this gives your hair time to self dry a little so it wont need as long to blow dry, also prep the hair with your products. Everyone should be using a leave in conditioning product if not or also a product for your desired look or shape.

Your Hairdryer is very important to this process of course and as hairdressers we spend alot on our equipment also the correct tools… Here is what you need….

  • Nozzle: Don’t discard this. It is key to a smooth look and keeps hair from getting too close to the heat.
  • Hairdryers : To be 1,800 watts and multiple heat and air settings
  • Round brush: Straighten strands, make ends flip, or create waves with this tool. Time-saving tip: The bigger the surface area of a brush, the faster the drying time.
  • New Brushes: When styling your hair the CORRECT brush is a must! Us ladies should be investing in good brushes, your brushes should also be clean of hair and product so they can grip onto the hair correctly! So if you have any brushes that you wouldn’t show off in public bin them today and go SHOPPING!!
  • Hair clip’s: It keeps layers separate and easy to manage and prevents damage caused by over drying sections.

Each section you take when blow drying your hair should be the width of the brush you are using, this controls the blow dry and also dries each strand of hair evenly. We should start from the nape of the neck when blow drying round to the sides then up to the crown and forward to the fringe area. I recommended you dry your fringe first so it doest have a part stuck in it from drying naturally.

Always point the dryer’s nozzle downwards to help smooth hair and create shine. Dry from roots to mid lengths to ends keeping the hairdryer at a distance from your brush , with your brush not touching it!

To curl ends, roll them under with a round brush, blast with heat, and set with cold air. For a straight finish, pull the brush through while drying ends with warm air; set with cold air.

Practice makes perfect and also visit a Salon, salons are always putting on blow dry offers at the moment too so go and teat yourself!

Remember to watch your stylist while in your salon too to pick up tips and tricks!!! This is a lesson in itself!

Winter Hair tips

So winter is arriving here in Ibiza too granted it is a few degrees higher than in good old blighty but still less daylight more hours of darkness, it’s the time of year our bodies are changing to keep us warm rather than cooler, we have our heating on in our homes so now is as good as time as any than to take that extra care of our hair!

What we don’t realise is our indoor heating can be just as damaging as blow drying our hair regularly. So here is a few top tips to keep our hair in tip-top condition!

TIP 1. Don’t leave the house with wet hair as not only will you catch the death of cold like our mothers have always told us, but your hair can freeze and break easily!

TIP 2. Avoid taking hot showers , use warm to luke warm water this will not dry your hair out and keep moisture in your hair. You will also notice by doing this your hair will be smoother and glossier!

TIP 3. When going outside cover up your hair with a cool hat or scarf this will protect your hair from the elements!

TIP 4. Condition, condition, condition! Dry heat and cold weather sap hair of moisture. Because dry hair breaks easily, the most important thing you can do during the cold months use a more intensive daily conditioner and a once a week treatment.

TIP 5 . Wear your hair in some funky updo hairstyles during winter. Not only will this limit your hair’s exposure to the elements and dry air, they are beautiful and wonderfully festive!

TIP 6. A little tip if you live here in IBIZA the water here isn’t the cleanest or purest especially worse in some areas than others. Every now and again give your hair a rinse in bottled water you will notice the different instantly!

TIP 7. Now our sleep in called beauty sleep for a reason to look after our hair while sleeping, sleep on a silk pillow case! This will reduce bed head and split ends!

TIP 8. Eat a well-balanced diet, I have got into juicing this year and I cant believe the difference in my skin , hair and nails! It a perfect way of getting all your vitamins in one glass!

TIP 9. Of course drink lots of water we forget how good this is for us in general!

Go on try a few of these tips if not all of them!
